Buggers:
I had no idea an 11 month old could produce SO many buggers. Our little A has got a pretty bad cold. I have one too, but I can take better medicine. She had some really rough nights because she couldn't breath through her nose at all, so she couldn't suck her thumb. One night I had gotten about 90 minutes of sleep by 5:00 am and another night I was up with her 12 times. But last night she slept from about 9pm to 5:15 this morning with out waking up at all. Wooo Hooo! I actually got to sleep from 11:30 to 5:15 with out a single interruption! I could hardly believe it! She then decided that 6:30 was time to wake up instead of 8, but that was fine. At least she got some good sleep last night.
Blue toes:
Blue toe actually. Just one of them. I think it was Sunday night when it happened, but I'm not even sure of that. I was reaching into the back of my pantry to grab a bag of chips to make some nachos for supper. On it's way out, the bag caught the edge of a big can of pineapple chunks. Bam! Right onto my big toe. And not just the side of it, but the edge of the top. By the time I reached down and took off my sock the toe nail was already purple. By the time I got over to our couch I was breathing like I did when I was in labor to keep from screaming and scaring A.
*Just a note... some of these pictures are terrible. Sorry if they gross you out.
Here's my toe right after it happened. The funny thing is I thought it looked so terrible then, and it did feel awful, but if you keep reading, you'll see this is not so bad in comparison.
Josh did some looking online and told me the best thing we could do was relieve the pressure. So he got out an honest to goodness torch and unbent a paper clip. He got the paper clip red hot and pretty much pierced my toe nail. It didn't hurt as he was going through the nail, but once he got through it and was hitting the skin underneath the nail, I was screaming into a pillow again.
See the nice little dot in the center of the nail? That's the attempt to relieve the pressure.
So it's been incredibly uncomfortable to walk. I can't get my foot into any shoes except flip flops and just to add a cherry on top, Duke has stepped on my toe twice since it happened and A did once. Ouch. Now it's just a waiting game for it to fall off I guess. :)
Here's what it looked like two nights ago. If you can believe it, it's even darker around the nail now.
Gross.
Anyway, those are our first two B's for the week. But the best one is the last...
Blessed:
I have been so blessed this week. Last Saturday J's grandma passed away. I feel so blessed that just a few weeks ago his grandparents had come up to our house to bring A a bunch of gifts from Christmas. We got to visit with them for quite a while and I got a really nice picture of A with her Great Grandma and Grandpa.
Sunday I hurt my toe and J showed so much compassion and care that even though I was in terrible pain, I was feeling so blessed that I have a husband who is willing to take such good care of me and our daughter when it hurt me to much to be up and around with her.
Monday my mom drove more than five hours to help me with my ironing (and other things). She is a blessing to me almost everyday. And when she was here I asked A "Where's Nana?" and A looked right at my mom. That blessed my mom as much as me I think!
Tuesday was the visitation. You've never seen such a lively gathering at a wake. People were talking and laughing over stories about J's grandma. Even during the service, Grandpa shared a few stories that had the whole church laughing. Even though J and I weren't incredibly close to his grandma, it was still a blessing to hear all of these stories about her. And it is always a blessing to spend time with aunts, uncles and cousins. But one of the biggest blessings was seeing J's sister and brother with A. They are just nuts over her. Always so sweet.
Wednesday I was so blessed to find out that J's mom was going to be staying with us for a couple nights to spend more time with A. We don't get to see her that often and I really want A to know her, so that was so great to have her stay here. She just left this morning.
So even through the buggers and the beat up foot, I am so thankful that I have such a blessed life.
